Gut Feelings...

Just curious, what was your gut feeling when you first heard that Barack Obama has been elected our 44th president?

I was pretty much undecided the entire election, leaning towards McCain. I found out my true feeling tonight as the T.V. announcer spoke, "We have just leaned the Barack Obama will be our 44th president." Then this feeling of worry and Oh, NO!.....do you know why? All along I have said that I think that when government tries to change things for the better....the issue seems worse of. Because government is a system. I will rub your back if you rub mine. I will vote this way, because this will get me elected next term. John McCain does not admit to it, but many good men have said that he at one time was considering defecting to the democratic party!!!...why he didn't do this? It would crush his chances of running in this election. BUT Some how in all this chaos, we operate.

I also have been thinking about cause and effect relationships.....we ship our factories and outsource our workers abroad....our goods become cheaper.....overseas economies thrive....driving up our cost of food, gas prices and price of goods. We want everyone in America to own a home=We sell homes to people who can't afford them, housing bubble, economy crashes. (I believe this would have never happened if GOVERNMENT would not have pushed for banks to lend in this way)

We start vaccinating our children, this is revolutionary and exciting medicine. But as the rate of infectious disease goes down, the rate of muscular and auto immunity disorders increase to make up for it! (Parkinson's, Lou Gehigs, Autism, Cancer)

I don't know the keys to the universe, but there seems to be a system of balances. As you increase or decrease one thing, the system or the opposite cycles.

SO as I said previously, this election I was worried about one word that came out of Obama's mouth....Change........

About a month ago I watched a 20/20 episode about what the government has "changed" over the past 50 years and in these cases how it had negative effects. Things somehow always ended up worse of!

Yes, I'm worried a little about the issues....gay marriage, abortion.....but I'm even more worried about the "balance" of our already very delicate government.

I THINK Obama is a good man with good intentions. I believe that he cares about the issues facing Americans. I would love to see and hope to see change.

What worries me is the cost.
ALSO, for those of you all having babies! I have a doctor in my ward that is a Autism specialist. He said that he has seen too many normal functioning children that digress to Autism after receiving 18 months of vaccinations to not believe that their COULD be a connection. There is enough evidence out there to claim that vaccinating our children in the way we do can lead to Autism. They have never studies the effects of giving a baby 4 shots in one day! How can we expect every child out there to be able to handle this many dissabled viruses entering their system and crossing the blood barrier of the brain! If you are not promiscuous and you do not do drugs you are not at risk for Hep B and YOUR BABY IS NOT EITHER!! This is a shot they get the day their born, not needed! If you are not at risk, neither is your child. He suggested that we give our babies shots, but space them out, one per day. Only get the ones that are critical.

I didn't truly want to vote for either, to be honest. I did vote for McCain, and solely on the reasoning that I cannot align myself with the moral values of Obama. I just can't get myself to support someone who supports abortion and all that goes along with it. I just can't get over the fact that he supported the black supremesist church for his whole life. Seriously?! He is not as "Pro-America" as I want in a President, but come what may...

I have done the same research as Valarie and the most recent studies say there is no real link between autism and vaccines. It is just that children who are autistic start regressing and showing symptoms around then- it is just how the disorder works.

Very interesting thoughts on the other issues- I hadn't thought about it in that way before! :) I really don't like Obama for several reasons, but I suppose we will survive the next few years...or 8... oh well!

Are you kidding me? Where did you find this quack? I have a son with autism. There is no such thing as an "autism specialist doctor." There are pediatricians who specialize in developmental disabilities. I have five children. ALL have been vaccinated. Only my second child has autism. Because he was not our first child, we knew from when he was a tiny infant that he was not responding appropriately. Amanda B. is completely right. The developmental delays are not recognizable (especially to first time parents and most older pediatricians) until around eighteen months. Our son was on his third pediatrician when he was finally diagnosed. This very respected, very loving, pediatrician who diagnosed him vaccinated his own children as well as mine after thoroughly researching the matter. There is a very strong anti-vaccination lobby in this country with their own axe to grind. They have latched onto autism as their scare tactic. And by the way, if there was pill to "cure" autism, I wouldn't give it to my son. Autism is part of who he is. I vaccinate my children for their safety and the safety of society at large. And actually for every study that tries to find a link between autism and vaccinations, three more studies (not funded by pharmaceutical companies and far more credible in their methodology -- because yes I actually READ the research) conclude that there is no link. Autism has a genetic factor and an as yet unknown trigger. Groundbreaking in utero studies on siblings of autistic children have revealed that the differences in their brains can be detected before they are born. So tell me how a vaccine managed that. Other studies have analyzed videos of autistic children as babies and shown that the differences were simply undetected by parents and doctors. Their brains are just hardwired differently. And yet they have no malice, no ulterior motives, no need to belittle or scare others. If only we could say the same for many bloggers.

And how will you feel if your child causes another child to become infected because you did not vaccinate? How will you explain that to her parents? Vaccines are not 100% effective. If we all do our part, we help to possibly save everyone else's child too. It is called being selfless. It's a virtue God is pretty fond of.

Thank you, you loving people for your kind words. If you want to look up this "quack" You can watch about three tv interviews of him on youtube where he is introduced as one of the leading AUTISM SPECIALIST in the country and you can read his book, "changing the course of Autism" He works in a Autism specialized clinic. He has treated thousands of autistic children and has one of his own and adopted two. What I wrote was a private conversation we had and I thought it was so interesting and provoking I thought I would share the thoughts of a very reliable source on the matter with MY FRIENDS....so that they themselves can research it and have some information I wish I had before I had children myself. Take it or leave it, but if you choose to leave it, I totally repsect that. Please be respectful to the fact that this is a private blog journal with my own opinions and experiances and play nice!

WOW girl your BLOG rocks!!! This is better than Jerry SPringer. Mom to 5 took her boxing gloves off and just let it rip! I also ,like you Lisa, do worry about all these shots my little Sidney (your neice to those who don't know me) is getting. I'm not sure what the solution is but THIS is the BOTTOM Line ***if she were to develope autism after getting a round of shots that are sooo routine I would be devatasted***AND would blame myself and have to go to therapy to come to terms that this is just how God made her~and not the vacacines fault. Not sure what the solution is ~ But I don't feel it is sooo far fetched to believe there Could BE a LINK. As for Yo BAma I did very hesitantly vote for him. As you know I wasn't a big fan. I would love to know what the deleted comments were... we need to chat!

Autism is NOT devastating. Having your child die an agonizing death is devastating. Autism is simply another, perfectly valid, way to experience life. It is only the public who needs to change their mind set about this. Wow, maybe we will get that prenatal test for Autism, just like they did for Down's Syndrome. Wouldn't that be wonderful? Take a guess why the rates of children born with Down's Syndrome is dropping drastically. That's right. Parents choosing to abort a baby with another supposedly "devastating" condition. In the case of Down's, the abortion rate is around 90%.
Vaccines DO NOT cause Autism. Get out there and do the research. Not the follow the links on the web from quack to quack research. I mean sitting in specialists (multiple) offices, spending hour upon hour in libraries and clinics, being around children with Autism, babies with Autism, adults with Autism, reading every book you can get your hands on. Then explain to me why the rates of Autism are the same in cultures that do not vaccinate. And why the rates of children being diagnosed with Autism are increasing at an inverse relationship to the number of children being diagnosed as mentally retarded. We have gotten a lot better at diagnosing Autism. Someone who might have been seen as "odd" or "anti-social" might now be diagnosed as having Asperger's. In a mostly rural setting, a hundred years ago, what were the odds that your child who didn't talk or make a lot of eye contact was ever going to see a specialist? The first published paper identifying Autism was written in 1943, but there have been descriptions of Autistic behavior in case studies long before then. How much vaccinating were we doing in this country even as late as the 1940's?
I hope that your neuro-typical children can one day be as amazing, affectionate, resourceful, soulful, innocent, inspiring, mischievous, and beloved as my FANTASTICALLY AUTISTIC son. And who the heck publishes a blog (a WEB LOG) and then has to back-peddle and say it was private? Hmmm, do you slander other groups "in private"?

Ok, mom to five... you need to slow down! You are way out of line! If you knew my sister, you would know that she is not out to make judgments or cause hurt feelings. To those of us who do know her, she is the most caring and loving person you can find around. Like she said she was just speaking (writing) out loud a conversation that she had with a specialist. I give her credit for even caring when she does have "neuro-typical" children. Think about for a moment about the person you are attacking and not the words she is writing and that you are twisting around! I wish you well, and I'm sure you are a great mom with the best intentions.

Amen to AMY!

Re: Mom to Five- It sounds like you have put eons of time into researching this, as you should being a parent of an autistic child. I can entirely garauntee that Lisa meant no harm to you in her post, so please don't take things personally. Just because you took it the wrong way does not give you a right to go ballistic on someone. CHILL OUT, ok?

Whether its true or false, I have heard a lot of the same chatter about the links between immunizations and autism from all over the place- so it's not like this is some new idea. And there are some people (I know personally) who DO have autistic children and think there IS a realistic link. SO until it's PROVEN, we'll all just have to do our best to come to our own individual conclusions on it.

Ding , Ding, Ding time for round 3.
Sounds like someone needs to see a therapist. Or maybe you are already medicated and need to call your Doc to get you meds upped. Either way you don't know me or my family. So why are you here causing problems. This is why people have private blogs to avoid people like you!!! Just for the record ~You are barking up the wrong tree.. Go FIND another.

As Seth would say "Girlfriend.. Don't go there"

I am not exactly sure why Valarie and mom of five are behaving like this. There's a way to share conflicting views appropriately and a way to be offensive, they both have opted for the later. I know the doctor Lisa is speaking of, and these two girls would not be posting these comments if they had met him and spoken with him personally about these issues, or read his book. I've attended a conference by him, and saw mothers from all over the world at the conference who bring their children to Austin specifically to be treated by this Autism expert. He is flown all over the world to meet with people to share his views of diet, surgical procedures, etc. that make a difference to ease some of the problems these childrens deal with daily. His methods have completely cured some Autistic children, which proves his point that it is not genetic. I teach his son at church and have seen the difference over the past years and the progress he has made from his father's work. If mother of five sees it as a genetic issue and in no way wants to try to cure it, that is her own belief and stance. However, she cannot argue that some mothers would want to try to cure their child of autism, and appreciate the hope of knowing there could be that chance. Why should she take away hope from anyone other than herself? Yes, mother of five can share her views, but so can others. And I believe her view is completely off base. Lisa was not suggesting not vaccinating your children, but just to space the vaccinations out. If that is what she chooses to do, there is no harm in that. That is her choice, and an informed choice at that!
